Acomplia
Acomplia is also known as Rimonabant, acomplia side effects, does acomplia work, acomplia is a prescription pill, acomplia explained.
Acomplia is a prescription drug which should be used in conjunction with a balanced diet and an excercise programme, it is for obese people who are at risk of medical conditions because of being overweight, doctors in Europe have recently stopped prescribing Acomplia because it may have psychiatric side effects, Acomplia is in a group of drugs called selective cannabinoid receptor CB1 antagonists that work by stopping hunger signals getting through to your brain so you dont feel hungry.
The active ingredient in Acomplia is rimonabant, in clinical trials there was an average weight loss of 6.5kg over one year and half of the group lost five per cent of their original body weight, it will not be prescribed to anyone under 18 or to pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Apart from psychiatric side effects other Acomplia side effects have been reported, these include nausea, upper respiratory tract infection, upset stomach, vomiting, bruising, tendonitis, back pain, memory loss, hot flush, influenza, joint sprain, hallucinations, lethargy, panic attacks, hiccups, anger and restlessness, sleeping disorders, nervousness, depression, dizziness, diarrhoea, itching, excessive sweating, muscle cramps, and fatigue, obviously this varies greatly from person to person and some people may not get any side effects.
Acomplia is said to reduce the craving for nicotine and the makers are trying to get a second licence to produce it as an anti smoking aid, it has not yet been approved by the FDA in the US but if it is then it will be known as Zimulti not Acomplia, it is made by Sanofi Aventis and is known as Rimonabant.
The reason that doctors in Europe have stopped prescribing Acomplia is because it is thought that it blocks a receptor in the brain which is called TRPV1, this receptor is part of your memory and learning and blocking it can cause anxiety and depression, Acomplia blocks the CB1 receptors and this stops you feeling hungry, the manufacturers are looking into how much of the drug you have to take to trigger the TRPV1 receptor.
Acomplia does seem to help obese people to lose weight but there can be serious side effects and there is a long list of people that doctors will not prescribe acomplia to.
