Hoodia Gordonii is one of the most common appetite suppressants commercially available, appetite suppressants fool the brain into thinking that the stomach is full, thereby reducing your intake of food and fats.

Hoodia Gordonii is a type of cactus plant that grows in the extreme conditions of the Kalahari Dessert. African tribesman sometimes use Hoodia to stave off hunger whilst away on long hunting trips. The hoodia plant contains a substance called p57 and this is the part of the plant that aids natural weight loss.

The discovery of P57 lead to many years of research into hoodias potential as a weight loss pill, but after all these years of research, there is almost no evidence to support the claim that hoodia actually works.

Phytopharm a British pharmaceutical company funded a weight loss study which suggests that people ate as much as 1000 calories less per day while taking large doses of hoodia extract. Despite this Phytopharm doesn’t have a hoodia product on the market because they are still testing the product to make sure that hoodia is safe.

Genuine Hoodia is expensive to produce because of the time it takes to farm, extract the p57 and be effective as an appetite suppressant. Cheap Hoodia almost certainly contains only a little p57 and will therefore be much less effective, so if you decide to buy some you have been warned.

Genuine Hoodia tablets will often have a CITES certificate (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species). The Hoodia plant is considered an endangered species and must be grown in a controlled environment.

* 100% pure means that the whole of the hoodia plant is ground up and put into a bottle. This is cheap hoodia and you get what you pay for (not a lot).

* 20:1 extract means 1 gram of the hoodia extract was made from 20 grams of whole hoodia plant.

Reports suggest that Hoodia can produce a slight feeling of sexual awareness, some people may look upon this as a positive side effect!!!

Several popular brand name diet pills, such as Trimspa, contain hoodia as one of the ingredients.
